A tattoo is one of the most dynamic symbols of self-expression ever created. It is very important to rely on the expert guidance of your artist for the care & aftercare of your long life treasure. The long life of your tattoo depends upon the care you give it during the critical first few days & weeks.

BEFORE you get your ink, we suggest you increase your intake of vitamins A, C, & D. These vitamins are known to promote healing and may help speed your skin’s recovery after receiving a tattoo. We also ask that you refrain from alcohol or aspirin two days before getting your tattoo as these can thin blood and cause excess bleeding, that washes the color pigment back out of the skin.

TATTOO AFTERCARE
After you’ve gotten inked and you leave our studio, it is your responsibility to take the important steps to heal properly. When you give your ink the proper care while your skin heals, you will find that the tattoo will retain its vibrancy longer and you will enjoy it for the rest of your life.

Recommended care instructions
Use the recommended After Inked we sell in our shop. After Inked is an ointment designed to effectively protect your new tattoo.

Quality shop operators worldwide have helped compile the following directions for quick healing. However, we urge you to consult your artist for any special instruction related specifically to the care & aftercare of your tattoo.

1. Do not re-bandage the tattoo
2. Do not apply Vaseline, lanolin or petroleum based products to the area.
3. Do not apply alcohol.
4. Do not rub, scratch or pick at the tattoo.
5. Do not expose the tattoo to direct sunlight, swim or soak in a sauna, steam bath or bathtub for two weeks after getting ink.
6. Be sure clothing touching your tattoo is clean and soft.

Remember, a tattoo is considered minor surgery. It may bleed a bit at first, but will stop within a couple hours. Most artists recommend the tattoo be kept bandaged overnight or for at least two to five hours after ink is applied. If the gauze sticks to the skin, soak the area with cool water until the gauze loosens, then remove it carefully. Once the ink is exposed, wash it carefully in cold water. Gently apply antibacterial soap using your fingers (never a cloth) to remove all surface blood and ooze. Rinse with cold water, pat dry with a clean towel & let air dry for 15 minutes. Then gently and sparingly apply a thin layer of After Inked. Repeat 3 or 4 times each day for 7-10 days.

After 5-14 days the tattoo may start to peel (this is normal, like a sunburn) and scab over. DO NOT pick or peel the skin away!! Let it fall off naturally during the washing. Fresh skin will soon replace the dead skin. Your colors may appear faded during this process, but the color will return when the healing is completed. It is important to use lotion to keep your tattoos healthy by keeping the skin soft and moist. Always apply After Inked or lotion sparingly. Too much prevents the skin/ink from breathing and can cause bleaching of your colors. If this happens, discontinue use, wash the tattoo, pat dry and consult your Tattoo artist at your earliest convenience.

After a few weeks all scabbing will be gone, but the area may still be a little sensitive. Continue regularly cleaning the area and applying lotion for the proper aftercare of your tattoo.

Sun exposure is a major cause of ink fading, but after a few months you may sunbathe in moderation. Always use sunblock (at least SPF 30 that provides UVA & UVB protection).
